Getting Ready For Your Pool Closing Service

Getting Ready For Your Pool Closing Service

❄️ How to Prepare Your Pool for Closing

Complete Pre-Service Checklist

To ensure a seamless spring opening, it’s important to properly prepare your pool before your scheduled closing service. Please review and complete the following steps before your appointment to avoid delays or complications.

🧪 Step 1: Test Your Pool Water

✅ Pre-Closing Water Test

We offer complimentary water testing at Premier Pools. Bring in a sample 1–7 days prior to your scheduled closing appointment.

  • This test helps determine the correct chemical dosage

  • Results will guide us in recommending either a chlorine or non-chlorine closing kit

  • ⚠️ If you've already purchased and added your closing chemicals, water testing is not required

🧹 Step 2: Clean the Pool

✅ Brush and Vacuum

Thoroughly clean your pool to ensure the closing chemicals work effectively.

  • Brush all pool walls, floor, and steps

  • Vacuum to remove all visible debris

🛡️ Step 3: Prepare the Pool Cover

🔒 Auto Covers

  • Do not drain any water from the pool

  • Remove all water and debris from the cover prior to service

  • Use your cover pump throughout winter to manage thaw cycles

  • If your cover switch is locked, please:

    • Provide the unlock code

    • Or leave the key in the control box

⚠️ If your cover has standing water at the time of service, your appointment may be rescheduled to the same weekday of the following week.

🕳️ Mesh or Tarp Covers (With Anchors or Water Bags)

  • Drain water below the return lines

    • Close skimmer valves

    • Open the waste line or set multiport valve to “waste”

    • Unless Premier is scheduled to drain the pool for you

  • Leave the cover off until the closing process is complete

  • If Premier is installing the cover, ensure it's easily accessible

⚠️ If technicians need to remove or adjust your cover during closing, additional labor charges may apply.

🧴 Step 4: Add Closing Chemicals

We strongly recommend using Bioguard® pool closing kits to protect your water and equipment during the off-season.

📦 Step 5: Prepare Pool Supplies

✅ Locate All Closing Supplies

Please make sure items like plugs, gizmos, and skimmer components are easy for technicians to find near the pool or equipment pad.

  • ⚠️ Any missing or damaged items will be replaced at your expense

🛠️ During Your Service Appointment

🧩 Replacement of Closing Items

If needed, we will replace the following during your appointment:

  • Rubber winter plugs

  • White closing plugs

  • Winterizing tubes

  • Skimmer faceplates

These items will be added to your order and invoiced after service.

🚫 Main Drain Valve Preparation

Proper winterization of your main drain valve is critical to avoid freezing damage.

Here’s what our technician will do:

  • Confirm the valve is airtight and in good condition

  • Remove the valve handle and place it in the pump basket

  • Blow water from the line using air

  • Close the main drain valve at the equipment to seal in air pressure

  • Test for leaks — any hissing sound indicates leakage

If the valve leaks and cannot be repaired:

  • It will be cut out, and the line will be plugged after blowout

  • You will be contacted for spring repair scheduling

⚠️ An unsealed valve can result in cracked pipes or major freeze-related damage.
