🌤️ How to Clean & Protect Your WeatherShield® Spa Cover
WeatherShield® is a premium spa cover material engineered for durability, flexibility, and style. With its UV-resistant, mold-resistant, and water-repellent properties, it’s made to perform—but even the best fabric needs routine care to stay at its peak. Whether you’re looking to restore water resistance, prevent fading, or simply give your cover a good cleaning, this guide has you covered.
🧼 What is WeatherShield®?
WeatherShield is a solution-dyed polyester with a urethane backing, giving it:
-
Superior water resistance
-
Mold & mildew defense
-
High UV durability
-
Minimal shrink/stretch issues
-
Exceptional tear & abrasion resistance
But even with all those superpowers, regular cleaning and occasional re-treatment is essential for long-term performance.
What You’ll Need
-
✅ Soft-bristle brush or microfiber cloth
-
✅ Bucket or hose
-
✅ Mild soap (Woolite or Dawn recommended)
-
✅ Optional: bleach for stubborn stains
🧽 Step 1: Regular Cleaning
For standard dirt, dust, or light stains, follow this process:
-
Mix your solution – Combine 2 oz. of mild soap with 1 gallon of lukewarm water.
-
Apply and scrub – Use a soft brush or cloth to gently clean the non-coated (outer) surface.
-
Rinse thoroughly – Use clean, cold water to rinse off soap and dirt.
-
Air dry – Let the cover dry completely before reapplying protectants.
Alternatively, you can use 303 Multi-Surface Cleaner for a more powerful, ready-to-use option:
-
Spray directly on the surface
-
Scrub lightly with a soft brush
-
Rinse and dry
🧴 Step 2: Treating Stubborn Stains
If you’re dealing with mildew or set-in grime:
-
Mix 1 cup of bleach with 1 gallon of water (max concentration).
-
Lightly spray the solution on the outer (non-coated) surface. Do not soak the fabric.
-
Let sit for no more than 2 minutes.
-
Rinse thoroughly and dry completely.
⚠️ Note: Bleach will strip the protective finish—so you’ll need to re-treat with a fabric guard afterward.
☀️ Step 3: Restore Water Repellency
After any deep clean or bleach treatment, restore the water-repellent finish with 303 Fabric Guard:
-
Ensure fabric is completely dry before applying.
-
Spray evenly over the entire outer surface until damp, not soaked.
-
Allow to air cure for 6–12 hours in a clean, dry space.
-
Water-test by spraying a few drops—if it beads, you’re good!
🏆 Why 303 Fabric Guard?
-
Restores lost water repellency
-
Maintains softness and color
-
Protects against future mildew and UV damage
-
Safe for WeatherShield and most outdoor fabrics
📅 Maintenance Tips
-
Clean every 1–2 months or as needed depending on your environment
-
Reapply Fabric Guard after any deep clean or bleach use
-
Store dry—always let the cover dry before closing or storing to avoid mold growth
