How to Perform a System Flush on Your Spa

♻️ Time for a System Flush? Clean Out the Gunk You Can’t See

Over time, your hot tub’s plumbing builds up biofilm — a slimy layer of bacteria, organics, and other contaminants that can reduce sanitizer effectiveness and cause cloudy water or funky smells.

A System Flush is the deep clean your spa plumbing needs. It targets hidden build-up in jets, lines, and internal surfaces to restore clean water flow and maintain optimal performance.

🧪 What Is Spa System Flush?

System Flush is an earth-friendly, non-toxic cleaning solution that removes biofilm and organic residue from your spa’s plumbing system — without the use of soaps, detergents, or alcohol.

✔️ Safe for use in hot tubs, whirlpools, and fountains
♻️ Biodegradable & gentle on surfaces

🛠️ How to Perform a System Flush: Step-by-Step

1. 🔄 Prep Your Tub

  • Remove filters and spa cover

  • Heat water to normal operating temperature

  • Ensure jets and diverters are open for full circulation

2. 💧 Add Total Serum Cleanse

  • Take a scoop (about 1–2 tablespoons) and add it directly to the water

  • Run jets on high for 15–20 minutes

  • Expect heavy foaming — that’s the biofilm being released

  • Let circulate for 12–24 hours

⚠️ If your tub is indoors, prepare for foam control to avoid spills or overflows

3. 🚿 Drain & Rinse

  • Drain the spa completely

  • As it drains, wipe down the shell to remove residue

  • Use remaining flush liquid for stubborn grime

  • Rinse thoroughly with clean water

4. 🧼 Clean Your Filters

  • Spray filters with a hose to remove large debris

  • Allow filters to dry completely

  • Soak in a spa filter cleaner + hot water solution for 24 hours

  • Rinse thoroughly and dry before reinstalling

5. 💧 Refill & Rebalance

  • Refill with fresh water using a Pleatco Pre-Filter

  • Test water and balance chemicals (pH, alkalinity, sanitizer)

🔁 How Often Should You Flush Your Spa?

We recommend doing a system flush every time you drain and refill your spa — about every 3–4 months. With regular maintenance, the amount of flush needed and time required will decrease.
