Arctic Spa Custom Series Filter Descriptions

Progressive Filters:

This simple and effective system uses multiple bags, all of which filter out different sized particles. Because of the Progressive Filter's ability to catch most particles, there is no need for enhancing chemicals such as stain and scale control or metal removers.

Purpose: Designed to provide balanced filtration on one side of the spa.
Flow Characteristics: Provides a moderate restriction to water flow so it filters efficiently without overly reducing circulation.
Application: Typically installed on the standard flow side of dual filter systems (paired with a high-flow filter on the opposite side).
Performance: Good at capturing a wide range of contaminants; lasts a reasonable amount of time if water chemistry is maintained.

Purpose: Designed for higher circulation flow with less restriction.
Flow Characteristics: Allows more water to circulate through the system with lower resistance than the standard filter.
Application: Typically placed on the high-flow side of a dual pair.
Performance: Helps maintain circulation under heavier load (more bathers, debris), but may trap slightly larger particles first compared with standard. Works in concert with a standard filter for balanced performance.

Combo Progressive Filter:

Three‑Stage Filtration System: A depth filter corezeolite media, and an outer pleated cartridge work together to capture dirt, oils, and tiny particles for improved water clarity and cleanliness.  Uses two filter cylinders surrounded by media to enhance filtration efficiency and performance.

Purpose: A single, unified filter cartridge intended to replace the traditional pair of Standard + High-Flow progressive filters.
Flow Characteristics: Designed to offer higher performance filtration with good flow, combining traits of both standard and high flow in one cartridge.
Application: Used in place of both individual progressive filters; typically recommended if you’re having trouble with clarity or filter lifespan
Often lasts longer before clogging compared to standard progressive filters alone.

Progressive Pre-Filters:

The Pre-Filter is used if you have contaminants in water or if you water is cloudy.  To install the Pre-Filter, remove the blue filter floss at the top of the Progressive Filter.  Then install the Pre-Filter in place of where the filter floss was located.  Put the entire filter back in to the filter housing with the weir on top.

  • Custom Filter Weirs:

Black plastic canisters that go over the spa filter and protect it from large incoming debris. These weirs not only protect, but also indicate to you when the filters/pre-filters need replacing. When pump 1 is running during circulation, the weirs should pull down below the surface of the water. One will suck down completely, while the other bobs close to the water’s surface. If the weirs ever float above the surface while pump one is on, most likely the filters need to be cleaned or replaced.

Progressive Filter Cartridge Removal & Installation

    1. Put Spa in Standby mode using SDS button on topside control panel or turn off breaker.

    2. Remove the telescoping filter insert/floating weir.

    3. Remove blue debris filter (& pre-filter if installed).

    4. Grab handle on Progressive Filter and pull up sharply to remove filter cartridge.

    5. Insert new Progressive Filter & blue debris filter (& pre-filter if needed).

The use of clarifiers, foam inhibitors, stain & scale controllers, Spa Complete & filter cleaners are not necessary & are not recommended with Progressive Filters.

    To identify left and right:

    1. Stand outside the spa, behind the filter canisters (with the water fall/weir area in front of you).

    2. Look down at the two filter canisters — the one on your left is the left side, the one on your right is the right side
