Polaris F7240 7240 Sport Robotic Pool Floor & Wall Cleaner, 50' Cable <=36' In-Ground Pools

F7240

Polaris 7240 Sport (F7240) at a glance

The 7240 Sport is a compact Polaris Trade Series robot for smaller in-ground pools up to 36 feet. It scrubs the floor and climbs the walls in about 2.5 hours, using cyclonic suction, a pleated brush and track drive. It's built to be light and simple: one cycle, one button, a 50-foot cable and a canister you can see through. Because it plugs in, there's no battery to charge.

  • Coverage: floor and walls
  • Cycle: about 2.5 hours, one mode, started with one button
  • Power: plug-in control unit; no battery, no charging
  • Cable: 50 ft floating cable (no swivel)
  • Controls: Start/Stop button on the control unit; no app, no Wi-Fi, no scheduling
  • Filtration: 3 L Easy Clean canister with a clear lid, so you can see when it's full
  • Pool size: in-ground pools up to 36 ft
  • Weight: about 15.4 lb
  • Caddy: not included (available as an optional accessory)
  • Warranty: 2-year limited (Polaris/Fluidra)

Our pairing pick: add a Betta SE Plus solar skimmer

Most of what ends up on your pool floor starts out floating: leaves, pollen, bugs and dust. The Betta SE Plus solar robotic skimmer patrols the surface all day on solar power and catches that debris before it sinks. With the surface handled, the 7240 Sport has less to pick up, its 3 L canister fills more slowly, and you won't need to run it as often. The Betta has no cord, so there's nothing for the 7240's floating cable to tangle with.

Using it: what to expect

Corded robots like the 7240 Sport don't have the charging limits of a cordless robot. You can run a cycle, empty the canister and start another right away. A few things still matter:

Situation What to plan for
Normal weekly upkeep Run a cycle as often as your pool needs; once or twice a week is typical. There's no scheduler, so each cycle is started at the control unit.
Spring opening / pool closed all winter Net out the big leaves first and get the water clear and above 55°F. A winter's worth of debris fills the 3 L canister quickly, and a full canister cuts suction and climbing. Expect to run several cycles, emptying the canister between each. Because it's corded, you can run them back to back.
Waterline Polaris rates the 7240 for floors and walls; it doesn't have a dedicated waterline mode. Wipe the waterline tile by hand now and then. For a robot that's rated to scrub the waterline, see the EPIC 8520.
Fall leaf drop Check the canister through the clear lid and empty it as soon as it looks full. Skimming leaves off the surface first saves a lot of canister trips.
Cable tangles The cable doesn't have a swivel, so it can twist over time, especially after wall climbs. Lay it out straight from the middle of the pool with no coils, and untangle it every so often. If it does twist, unplug it at the control unit and untangle it starting at the robot end.
Getting it out Take it out when the cycle ends. Lift by the handle, never by the cable. It's heavier when full of water, so let it drain as you lift.
Where the control unit goes At least 5 ft from the pool edge, on its base, plugged straight into a GFCI outlet (no extension cord). It's water-resistant, not waterproof.
Storage Rinse the canister, untangle and loosely coil the cable, and keep everything out of direct sun. Over a Minnesota winter, store the robot, cable and control unit indoors where they won't freeze.

Common questions

Do I need to charge it?
No. The 7240 Sport is corded, so it runs whenever it's plugged in. You can run cycles back to back.

Does it climb walls?
Yes. It cleans the floor and climbs the walls. Polaris doesn't rate it for waterline scrubbing.

What's the difference between the 7240 Sport and the 7000?
The 7000 cleans the floor and cove only, for above-ground and simple pools up to 30 ft, with a 40 ft cable. The 7240 Sport adds wall climbing, a 50 ft cable and a rating for in-ground pools up to 36 ft.

Should I step up to the EPIC 8520?
If your pool is over 36 ft, or you want waterline scrubbing, a quick floor-only cycle and Easy Lift retrieval, yes.

Will it work in an above-ground pool?
Polaris rates the 7240 Sport for in-ground pools. For above-ground pools, see the Polaris 7000.

Can I leave it in the pool?
Polaris recommends taking it out after each cycle.
