FALPHAIQ

Polaris ALPHA iQ (FALPHAIQ) at a glance

The ALPHA iQ is Polaris's 4-wheel-drive smart robot. Instead of a fixed cycle, its SMART mode scans your pool on the first run and works out how long a full clean should take. The iAquaLink app lets you schedule repeat cleanings, steer it, and check on it from your phone. It's corded, so there's no battery to charge.

  • Coverage: floor, walls and waterline (SMART), or floor only (Quick Clean)
  • Cycle: SMART calculates the time for your pool (2.5 hr on the first run); Quick Clean floor-only is 1 hr 15 min
  • Drive: 4WD with a front pleated brush for climbing and getting over drains and steps
  • Power: plug-in control box; no battery, no charging
  • Cable: 60 ft floating cable with a tangle-reducing swivel
  • App: iAquaLink over home Wi-Fi: start/stop, modes, timer, repeat schedule, remote steering, Easy Lift and over-the-air updates
  • Retrieval: Easy Lift brings it up the wall to the waterline and drains water as you lift
  • Filtration: extra-large 5 L canister with a clear lid and a dirty-canister indicator
  • Pool size: in-ground pools up to 50 ft
  • Caddy: tool-free premium caddy included
  • Warranty: 2-year limited (Polaris/Fluidra)

Our pairing pick: add a Betta SE Plus solar skimmer

Most of what ends up on your pool floor starts out floating: leaves, pollen, bugs and dust. The Betta SE Plus solar robotic skimmer patrols the surface all day on solar power and catches that debris before it sinks. With the surface handled, the ALPHA iQ has less to pick up, its canister fills more slowly, and you won't need to run it as often. The Betta has no cord, so there's nothing for the ALPHA's floating cable to tangle with.

Using it: what to expect

Corded robots like the ALPHA iQ don't have the charging limits of a cordless robot. You can run a cycle, empty the canister and start another right away. A few things still matter:

Situation What to plan for
First run The first SMART cycle runs 2.5 hours while it measures your pool, then saves the cleaning time it calculates. If you change something big (a new liner, a pool cover, a different pool), hold Start/Stop for 5 seconds to have it recalculate.
Normal weekly upkeep Set it to repeat every day, every 2 days or every 3 days in the app or on the control box, or start cycles when you need them. Use Quick Clean (floor only, 1 hr 15 min) for fast pickups.
Spring opening / pool closed all winter Net out the big leaves first and get the water clear and above 55°F. A winter's worth of debris will fill even the 5 L canister quickly. When the dirty-canister indicator comes on, empty it and start again. Because it's corded, you can run cycles back to back.
Adjusting the cycle Use +/– on the control box (or the app) to lengthen or shorten a cycle in 15-minute steps, from 30 minutes up to 3.5 hours.
The first 10 minutes Each cycle starts with about 10 minutes of sensing, during which it won't climb to the waterline. That's normal.
Cable tangles The swivel cuts down on twisting. Put only enough cable in the water to reach the far end, entering near the middle of the pool. If it does twist, unplug it at the control box, work out the kinks starting at the robot end, and lay the cable in the sun to relax it.
Getting it out Press Easy Lift on the control box or in the app. It drives up a wall and waits at the waterline so the water drains as you lift. Lift by the handle, never by the cable or swivel. "Error 9" on the control box just means the cycle finished.
Between cycles Polaris says to take it out of the pool at the end of each cycle.
Where the power supply goes At least 5 ft from the pool edge, plugged straight into a GFCI outlet (no extension cord).
Storage Rinse it, let it dry out of direct sun, stand it upright on the caddy, and loosely coil the cable onto the caddy hook. Over a Minnesota winter, store the robot, cable and control box indoors where they won't freeze.

What's in the box

  • ALPHA iQ robotic cleaner with 60 ft floating cable and swivel
  • Control box (power supply) with Wi-Fi
  • Premium tool-free transport and storage caddy

Care

  • Rinse the filter canister after every cycle; deep-clean it now and then with mild soapy water and a soft brush.
  • Replace the brushes when they reach the wear indicator, or every two years, whichever comes first.
  • Never run it out of the water; that can damage the motors and void the warranty.
  • Take the cleaner out of the pool during shock treatments or acid additions.

Common questions

Do I need to charge it?
No. The ALPHA iQ is corded, so it runs whenever it's plugged in. You can run cycles back to back.

How long does a cycle take?
The first SMART cycle is 2.5 hours while it learns your pool. After that it uses the time it calculated, which you can adjust in 15-minute steps.

Can it clean on a schedule?
Yes. Set it to repeat every day, every 2 days or every 3 days.

What does the ALPHA iQ+ add?
A 70 ft cable and pools up to 60 ft, a lighted canister, and more modes (floor/walls/waterline, waterline only and custom) with custom scheduling.

ALPHA iQ or EPIC 8642 iQ?
Both are Wi-Fi robots with the iAquaLink app. The ALPHA adds 4WD, SMART mode that sizes the cycle to your pool, a bigger 5 L canister with a full indicator and repeat scheduling. The EPIC uses tracks with front and rear brushes.

Will it work in an above-ground pool?
No. Polaris rates the ALPHA iQ for in-ground pools.
