FALPHAIQP
The ALPHA iQ+ is the top of Polaris's ALPHA line: the same 4-wheel-drive smart robot as the ALPHA iQ, with a longer 70-foot cable for pools up to 60 feet, a lighted 5 L canister, five cleaning modes and custom scheduling in the iAquaLink app. Its SMART mode scans your pool on the first run and works out how long a full clean should take. It's corded, so there's no battery to charge.
Our pairing pick: add a Betta SE Plus solar skimmer
Most of what ends up on your pool floor starts out floating: leaves, pollen, bugs and dust. The Betta SE Plus solar robotic skimmer patrols the surface all day on solar power and catches that debris before it sinks. With the surface handled, the ALPHA iQ+ has less to pick up, its canister fills more slowly, and you won't need to run it as often. The Betta has no cord, so there's nothing for the ALPHA's floating cable to tangle with.

Independent review: Swimming Pool Lab
Corded robots like the ALPHA iQ+ don't have the charging limits of a cordless robot. You can run a cycle, empty the canister and start another right away. A few things still matter:
| Situation | What to plan for |
|---|---|
| First run | The first SMART cycle runs 2.5 hours while it measures your pool, then saves the cleaning time it calculates. If you change something big (a new liner, a pool cover, a different pool), hold Start/Stop for 5 seconds to have it recalculate. |
| Normal weekly upkeep | Set a custom schedule in the iAquaLink app, or start cycles when you need them. Use floor only (1 hr 15 min) for fast pickups and waterline only (45 min) to knock down a scum line. |
| Spring opening / pool closed all winter | Net out the big leaves first and get the water clear and above 55°F. A winter's worth of debris will fill even the 5 L canister quickly. When the dirty-canister indicator comes on, empty it and start again. Because it's corded, you can run cycles back to back. |
| Adjusting the cycle | Use +/– on the control box (or the app) to lengthen or shorten a cycle in 15-minute steps, from 30 minutes up to 3.5 hours. |
| The first 10 minutes | Each cycle starts with about 10 minutes of sensing, during which it won't climb to the waterline. That's normal. |
| Cable tangles | The swivel cuts down on twisting. Put only enough cable in the water to reach the far end, entering near the middle of the pool. If it does twist, unplug it at the control box, work out the kinks starting at the robot end, and lay the cable in the sun to relax it. |
| Getting it out | Press Easy Lift on the control box or in the app. It drives up a wall and waits at the waterline so the water drains as you lift. Lift by the handle, never by the cable or swivel. "Error 9" on the control box just means the cycle finished. |
| Between cycles | Polaris says to take it out of the pool at the end of each cycle. |
| Where the power supply goes | At least 5 ft from the pool edge, plugged straight into a GFCI outlet (no extension cord). |
| Storage | Rinse it, let it dry out of direct sun, stand it upright on the caddy, and loosely coil the cable onto the caddy hook. Over a Minnesota winter, store the robot, cable and control box indoors where they won't freeze. |
| Mode | Covers | Cycle time | Started from |
|---|---|---|---|
| SMART (default) | Floor, walls and waterline | Calculated for your pool (2.5 hr on the first run) | Control box or app |
| Floor only | Pool floor | 1 hr 15 min | Control box or app |
| Floor, walls and waterline | Entire pool at a set cycle time | Adjustable | Control box or app |
| Waterline only | Tile/scum line | 45 min | Control box or app |
| Custom | Your choice of areas and time | You set it | App |
Pool 50 ft or smaller and only need SMART and floor-only? The ALPHA iQ is the same 4WD robot with a 60 ft cable and simpler scheduling.

Do I need to charge it?
No. The ALPHA iQ+ is corded, so it runs whenever it's plugged in. You can run cycles back to back.
How long does a cycle take?
The first SMART cycle is 2.5 hours while it learns your pool. After that it uses the time it calculated, which you can adjust in 15-minute steps.
Can it clean on a schedule?
Yes. Build a custom schedule in the iAquaLink app.
What does the iQ+ add over the ALPHA iQ?
A 70 ft cable and pools up to 60 ft (vs. 60 ft and 50 ft), a lighted canister, three extra modes (floor/walls/waterline, waterline only and custom) and custom scheduling instead of every-1/2/3-day repeats.
ALPHA iQ+ or EPIC 8642 iQ?
Both are Wi-Fi robots with the iAquaLink app. The ALPHA iQ+ adds 4WD, SMART mode that sizes the cycle to your pool, a bigger lighted canister with a full indicator, more modes and room for pools up to 60 ft. The EPIC uses tracks with front and rear brushes.
Will it work in an above-ground pool?
No. Polaris rates the ALPHA iQ+ for in-ground pools.
