Raypak 017373 Digital ASME 336A Natural Gas Pool and Spa Heater, 332,500 BTU
Model B-R336A-EN-C #50 ASME | Order # 017373 | Bronze headers, copper fin tubes | Built for 0 to 2,000 ft elevation
The Raypak Digital ASME 336A is the code-stamped version of the Digital atmospheric gas heater, rated at 332,500 BTU per hour on natural gas. Bronze headers and an ASME-certified copper fin-tube heat exchanger take the place of the polymer headers used on the residential model, for pools and spas where an ASME heater is required, typically commercial sites. Item 017373 is the natural gas, copper version for sea level to 2,000 ft.
✅ Made for:
- Fuel: natural gas only. The propane ASME 336A is a different item number (017385).
- Elevation: sea level to 2,000 ft (burner orifice #50). Raypak also lists item 017377 with the #51 orifice and item 017381 with the #52 orifice; on copper models Raypak gives #51 for 2,000 to 6,000 ft and #52 for 6,000 to 9,000 ft.
- Heat exchanger tubes: copper. The cupronickel ASME 336A is a different item number (017401).
- Outdoor installation as shipped, using the stackless top packed with the heater. Indoor installation needs Raypak indoor stack kit 009840 and a vent to the outside, or the D-2 power vent kit (010745 for 120 V, 009833 for 240 V).
- Pump flow between 35 and 100 GPM. Above 100 GPM Raypak calls for an external bypass valve.
- Some jurisdictions require a flow switch on ASME installations. Raypak offers kit 015889F (flange connection) or 015890F (NPT connection) for that.
🔧 Details:
- Raypak item 017373, model B-R336A-EN-C #50 ASME. UPC 840891041559.
- Input rating 332,500 BTU/hr (97.4 kW). Raypak lists the Digital ASME series at 82% thermal efficiency.
- Natural gas supply pressure 6 in. WC minimum, 10.5 in. WC maximum. Gas connection 3/4 in. NPT.
- ASME heat exchanger: bronze headers and copper fin tubes, HLW-stamped, 100 PSIG maximum allowable working pressure, registered with the National Board.
- A 75 PSI pressure relief valve is included, shipped loose for the 3/4 in. NPT port in the header.
- A ProTek Shield sacrificial assembly and its adapter are included, shipped loose for installation at the inlet connection. It protects the heat exchanger from galvanic corrosion.
- Electronic intermittent ignition lights the pilot and main burners automatically on a call for heat.
- Digital control with LCD display: pool and spa modes, adjustable setpoint, status and diagnostic messages. Remote-ready for two-wire or three-wire control systems.
- Unitherm Governor (thermostatic mixing valve) and a built-in automatic bypass valve in the inlet/outlet header.
- Power 120 or 240 VAC, single phase, 60 Hz, through a dual-voltage transformer; Raypak states the heater is factory-wired for 240 VAC. Draws 4 A at 120 V or 2 A at 240 V. Not for 208 VAC.
- Water connections 2 in. slip, with CPVC unions. Right-hand as shipped; Raypak lists left-hand as an optional field change.
- Cabinet 26 in. wide, 28 in. deep, 38 in. high; 40 in. to the top of the outdoor stackless top. Flue diameter 8 in.
- Shipping weight with the stackless top: 249 lb in the current manual, 250 lb in Raypak's ASME submittal.
- In the carton: outdoor stackless (pagoda) top, two 2 in. CPVC union halves with O-rings, plastic finish flange for the gas line, bonding lug, pressure relief valve, and the ProTek Shield adapter with ProTek Shield, O-ring and wing nut.
- Raypak limited warranty for ASME models: one year parts and labor.
📌 Good to know:
- Raypak rates the input for elevations up to 2,000 ft and reduces it 4% for each 1,000 ft above sea level beyond that, so order the version built for your elevation.
- The ProTek Shield is a wear item. Raypak says to replace it when its weight has dropped to about 40% of the original.
- Salt chlorinators and chemical feeders must be plumbed downstream of the heater. Raypak's water chemistry table allows up to 4,500 ppm salt.
- This is the atmospheric ASME model. Raypak's Low NOx ASME heaters are the separate 207A to 407A models.
- Gas, venting and electrical work must be done by a qualified installer or service agency. Raypak's warranty applies to heaters installed by a licensed service provider.
Gas, venting and electrical work must be done by a qualified installer and meet local codes.
