Pool heater installation and replacement
Fall is the easiest time of year to schedule a pool heater replacement. The pool is already coming out of service, our installation schedule has room, and your new heater is commissioned and ready before you open next spring instead of during the first warm week when everyone wants one.
Gas pool heaters
A gas pool heater raises water temperature quickly and keeps working when the air turns cold, which is what makes it the usual choice in Minnesota. If you want to swim in May or keep swimming into September, gas is almost always the right answer here.
- Heats fast enough for weekend-only or on-demand use
- Performs in cool shoulder-season weather, unlike a heat pump
- Available in natural gas and propane
- May require a gas line or venting review during the quote
Pool heat pumps
A pool heat pump moves heat from the surrounding air into the water rather than burning fuel, so it costs less to run. The trade-off is that output falls as the air cools, and below roughly 50°F it recovers slowly. In our climate that makes a heat pump best suited to maintaining temperature through mid-summer rather than extending the season.
- Lower operating cost per degree of heat
- Slower recovery, so it suits pools kept covered and heated continuously
- Limited usefulness in cold spring and fall air
- Needs adequate electrical service at the equipment pad
Sizing matters more than brand
An undersized heater runs constantly and never quite gets there. Correct sizing depends on your pool's surface area, how much of a temperature rise you want, whether the pool is exposed to wind, and whether you use a cover. We size from your actual pool rather than a rule of thumb, and we will tell you if the heater you already have is the right capacity and simply needs service instead of replacement.

We install and service equipment from the major manufacturers, and we stock closeout units from these lines as the season winds down. If you have a preference, tell us; if you don't, we will recommend based on your pool, your gas or electrical service, and what we can get quickly.
Raypak pool heaters
A long-standing choice for residential gas pool heaters, widely used for straightforward serviceability and parts availability. If you need a dependable gas heater without a lot of complexity, a Raypak is often what we suggest.
Hayward pool heaters
Hayward builds gas heaters and heat pumps alongside pumps and filters, so a Hayward heater drops neatly into a pool that already runs Hayward equipment and controls.
Pentair pool heaters
Pentair heaters fit into the broader Pentair equipment and automation ecosystem, which matters if you want heater, pump and lighting on one control system.
Jandy pool heaters
Jandy heaters pair with Jandy valves, pumps and automation, and are a common fit on pools originally built out with that equipment.
Pool pump replacement
The pump is the single biggest energy user on most pools, and it is usually the cheapest piece of equipment to upgrade for real savings.
Variable speed pumps
A variable speed pool pump runs longer at a much lower speed instead of short bursts at full power, which cuts energy use substantially and runs far quieter. Replacing an aging single-speed pump is the upgrade that pays for itself fastest on most pools, and variable speed is now the standard for replacement pumps. We handle variable speed pool pump installation including the control wiring and any plumbing changes the swap needs.
When to replace rather than repair
Noise, loss of prime, leaking seals, a motor that trips the breaker, or a pump that is simply old are all worth a look. Sometimes the fix is a seal or a motor. We will tell you which, and if a repair makes more sense than a replacement we will say so.
We check that the replacement suits your existing plumbing, filter and any automation already on the pad, so you are not left with a pump that outruns the rest of the system.
Pool filter replacement
A filter that is undersized, cracked or simply worn out makes every other part of the system work harder. Replacement is straightforward and pairs naturally with a pump or heater install while the equipment pad is already apart.
Cartridge filters
A cartridge pool filter needs no backwashing, so no water is wasted on cleaning. Cartridges are rinsed periodically and replaced every few seasons. A common choice where water conservation or simple operation matters.
Sand filters
Simple and forgiving, cleaned by backwashing. A sand filter replacement is straightforward, and the sand media itself gets changed every several years. Often the most economical option for a straightforward pool.
D.E. filters
The finest filtration of the three and the clearest water, with more routine maintenance in exchange. A good fit for owners who want the best possible water clarity.
Filter sizing should match pump flow. An undersized filter shortens cycles and works the pump harder, so we size the two together rather than swapping one in isolation.

Common questions
What does a new pool heater cost to install?
Pool heater cost depends on the type and size of heater, and on what the site needs. The heater itself is only part of it: a gas heater may need a gas line sized correctly for its input, and a heat pump may need electrical work at the pad. Venting, pad space and plumbing modifications all factor in. We quote the job as an installed price so you see equipment and labor together rather than a surprise at the end, and the end-of-season discounts apply to that whole figure.
Can you install after my pool is already closed?
Yes, and that is much of the point of this offer. Equipment work does not require the pool to be open, so we can replace a heater, pump or filter after closing and have it ready for spring. You can also have it done before closing if you'd rather. Either way the discount is the same.
Should I repair my existing equipment instead?
Sometimes, and we will tell you when that is the case. A pool heater repair such as a failed igniter, or a pump with a bad seal, is often worth doing. A twenty-year-old heater with a corroded heat exchanger generally is not. We handle pool heater service and repair as well as replacement, so our recommendation isn't tied to selling you the bigger job.
How long does an installation take?
A straightforward like-for-like pump or filter swap is usually a single visit. A heater replacement typically is as well, unless gas or electrical work is needed, in which case we will tell you in advance what the sequence looks like.

Yes. We are a full-service pool company, not just an installer, and the equipment we put in is equipment our own service department supports.
