Raypak 017399 Digital ASME 206A Natural Gas Pool and Spa Heater, 199,500 BTU

Model B-R206A-EN-X #50 ASME | Order # 017399 | Cupronickel heat exchanger, bronze headers | Built for 0 to 2,000 ft elevation

The Raypak Digital ASME 206A is the commercial version of Raypak's Digital atmospheric gas heater, rated at 199,500 BTU per hour on natural gas. Its heat exchanger is ASME-certified and National Board registered, with bronze headers and cupronickel fin tubes, and a 75 PSI pressure relief valve comes in the carton. Item 017399 is the natural gas, cupronickel version built for installations from sea level to 2,000 ft.

✅ Made for:

  • Use: commercial pools and spas, and other installations where an ASME-certified heater is required.
  • Fuel: natural gas only. Raypak lists the propane version as item 017411.
  • Elevation: sea level to 2,000 ft (burner orifice #50). Raypak lists item 017403 for 2,000 to 6,000 ft and item 017407 for 6,000 to 9,000 ft.
  • Heat exchanger: cupronickel tubes. The same heater with copper tubes is Raypak item 017371.
  • Outdoor installation as shipped, using the stackless top packed with the heater. Indoor installation needs Raypak indoor stack kit 009838 and a vent to the outside.
  • Pump flow between 20 and 100 GPM. Above 100 GPM Raypak calls for an external bypass valve.
  • This is an atmospheric heater, not a Low NOx model. Raypak's Low NOx ASME heaters are the 207A to 407A series.

🔧 Details:

  • Raypak item 017399, model B-R206A-EN-X #50 ASME. UPC 840891042167.
  • Input rating 199,500 BTU/hr (58.4 kW). Raypak lists the Digital ASME series at 82% thermal efficiency.
  • ASME heat exchanger, HLW-stamped and National Board registered, 100 PSIG maximum allowable working pressure. Bronze headers, cupronickel fin tubes, steel tube sheets.
  • 75 PSI pressure relief valve included, shipped loose in the accessory carton. The header has a 3/4 in. NPT connection for it.
  • ProTek Shield sacrificial assembly with its adapter, packed in the accessory carton for installation at the inlet connection of the bronze header.
  • Natural gas supply pressure 6 in. WC minimum, 10.5 in. WC maximum. Gas connection 3/4 in. NPT.
  • Electronic intermittent ignition lights the pilot and main burners automatically on a call for heat.
  • Digital control with LCD display: pool and spa modes, setpoint adjustable from 50 to 104 degrees F (maximum can be raised to 107), status and diagnostic messages, PIN control lockout. Remote-ready for two-wire or three-wire control systems.
  • Unitherm Governor (thermostatic mixing valve) and automatic bypass valve built into the inlet/outlet header.
  • Power 120 or 240 VAC, single phase, 60 Hz. Draws 4 A at 120 V or 2 A at 240 V. Factory wired for 240 VAC. Not for 208 VAC.
  • Water connections 2 in. slip, with CPVC unions. PVC pipe can be glued directly to the unions.
  • Cabinet 20 in. wide, 28 in. deep, 38 in. high; 40 in. to the top of the outdoor stackless top. Flue diameter 6 in.
  • Shipping weight about 210 lb with the stackless top (Raypak's documents give 206 to 212 lb).
  • In the carton: outdoor stackless (pagoda) top, two 2 in. CPVC union halves with O-rings, plastic finish flange for the gas line, bonding lug, pressure relief valve, ProTek Shield adapter and assembly.
  • Raypak limited warranty for ASME pool and spa heaters: one year parts and labor.

📌 Good to know:

  • Raypak rates the input for elevations up to 2,000 ft and reduces it 4% for each 1,000 ft above sea level beyond that, so order the version built for your elevation.
  • Some jurisdictions require a flow switch on ASME installations. Raypak offers kit 015889F (flange connection) or 015890F (NPT connection) for that.
  • On ASME units a high-limit trip is a manual-reset fault, cleared with the MODE button.
  • The ProTek Shield is a wear item and is not covered by the warranty. Raypak says to replace it when its weight has dropped to about 40% of the original.
  • Salt chlorinators and chemical feeders must be plumbed downstream of the heater. Raypak's water chemistry table allows up to 4,500 ppm salt.
  • To move the water connections to the other side on an ASME model, Raypak says to call the factory representative for instructions.
  • Gas, venting and electrical work must be done by a qualified installer or service agency. Raypak's warranty applies to heaters installed by a licensed service provider.

Gas, venting and electrical work must be done by a qualified installer and meet local codes.
